About Us
From humble beginnings in 1885, the cheesemakers of Pine River Cheese & Butter Co-operative have built a reputation for their unique brand of high quality aged Cheddar Cheese.
Fiercely independent and one of the few remaining farmer's co-operatives, Pine River Cheese has been owned and operated by the dairy farmers of Bruce County for five generations.
We invite you to tour our plant, located 6 km south of Kincardine, Ontario, and watch our skilled cheesemakers combine traditional processes with modern technology to produce Pine River quality. From the viewing gallery, observe Canadian Cheddar being produced. See a video presentation on the making of cheese, and enjoy the Bruce County Museum artifact display. Best time to view cheese making is during morning hours. The viewing gallery is open from Monday to Friday, and there is no charge.
While here, visit our retail store, featuring, of course, all varieties of Pine River cheese. These include mild, medium, old and premium cheddar, mozzarella, havarti, marble, and our flavoured cheeses. The store also carries certain varieties of organic cheeses.
In addition to all our cheeses, we also carry gourmet items to tempt any palate - speciality coffees, cocoa and hot chocolate in a variety of flavours, imported chocolate and other candy, imported biscuits, a wide variety of crackers, jams, jellies and other preserves, pickles, olives, and so on.
Traceability
Our traceability system gives customers added confidence. In 2007, the co-op signed up to participate in the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ Traceability pilot program. It’s an initiative designed to help food growers and processors track vital information at each stage of production and distribution, empowering businesses with the ability to conduct faster and more accurate product recalls when necessary.
